About Masjid Al-Ansar Islamic Community Center

Mission

Masjid Al-Ansar's mission is to serve as a faith-based hub for worship, education, cultural enrichment, community engagement, and interfaith dialogue, cultivating a dedication to community service and strengthening religious faith.

Our Story

Masjid Al-Ansar's founding was driven by a vision: to establish a welcoming space for African Muslims of all nationalities and languages, fostering unity and shared purpose. Within a culturally diverse city, Masjid Al-Ansar serves as an inclusive beacon, strengthening bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood, transcending geographical and cultural boundaries.

This vision materialized on January 9th, 2015, with the first prayer held in a modest setting by a dedicated group passionate about their faith and committed to community building. Despite their small number, this group shared a common goal: creating a space for collective worship, learning, and mutual support among African Muslims.

Motivated by a shared vision, the founders diligently established an inclusive environment welcoming individuals from all backgrounds, including those from the African diaspora. They recognized that the community's strength would derive from its diversity.

News of the masjid spread rapidly, attracting African Muslim congregants from the Northwest Suburbs to St. Paul, the capital of the twin cities. Masjid Al-Ansar provided a place of worship and fostered community building among individuals sharing similar experiences and values. The Masjid experienced steady growth, with increasing attendance at each prayer service, transforming from humble beginnings into a significant institution.

Over time, the masjid evolved into a vibrant hub for both worship and community engagement. It offered educational programs, fostering personal and spiritual development through classes and lectures on Islamic principles. Masjid Al-Ansar members actively served their community, organizing events and outreach initiatives to strengthen internal and external relationships.

Masjid Al-Ansar's history reflects consistent growth, resilience, and steadfast faith. Its evolution from a modest origin to its current vibrant state exemplifies the strength of unity, diversity, and shared purpose. The masjid serves a congregation of approximately 1500 to 2000 individuals, representing diverse backgrounds who gather for worship, education, fellowship, and collaborative efforts to improve their lives and community.
